Forestry Hockey League: Week 23 highlights

Serenity regains focus and BCS finds some life

The pre-playoff showdown between the FHL’s top two squads turned out to be a laugher, as the Builders got the jump on Bear early and rode the momentum to a 7-3 victory.

Still hopping from the Roos victory on the weekend was Cam “Shaft” Graham, who scored a beauty and more importantly added a trio of assists to his league-leading total of 33.

Matching Shaft’s output was Justin “Time” Rasmussen, who also found the twine once in a four-point morning.

Making a successful return from a four-week injury was Colin “Clutch” Keis with a pair of markers, and Keith “The Thief” Burgess also scored twice despite being robbed at least a half a dozen times.

The Bear Boys actually played like they had wound their clocks the wrong way a week early, as they were hemmed in their own end minutes at a time early in the game.

Scoring for the candy cane crew were their usual suspects, as Lee “Nitro” Naeth, Jason “Firecracker” Forman and Kris “Haymaker” Hayman all found the twine, while Eric “Bonsai” Bodman drew a pair of apples.

The other contest saw BCS exact some revenge on Fraser River, who walloped them 11-4 in their last meeting.

The 5-1 BCS victory was thanks to some outstanding goaltending from Richard Ward “Off Evil,” who rebounded nicely from his time in the red-light River Kings’ net on the weekend.

The well-balanced BCS attack, which seems to be peaking at the right time, saw five different marksmen find the twine, with Kevin “Nightrider” Hesslegrave the only goal scorer to also earn an assist.

Continuing his fine sophomore year was “Jack” Russel Higdon, who scored his eighth, while Rob “Sparky” Courturier, Budd “Crash” Carter and Matt “The Punisher” Powell all potted singletons.

Replying for Fraser River, who were suffering from an ice jam on offense, was “BIG” Bob Merta with a one-time blast from the point.
