Hockey player and mental health advocate and former Quesnel resident Myles Mattila has been named to the list of athletes to receive one of Sport BC’s Presidents’ Awards.

Mattila is one of 35 athletes to receive the prestigious award for 2018.

The 24th Annual Presidents’ Awards will be presented to Sport BC members who “represent the spirit of volunteerism and whose dedication, energy and commitment contribute to the development of their sport or organization in the province of British Columbia”.

Mattila plays hockey for the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s Kelowna Chiefs, and works to bring awareness to issues surrounding mental health.

The awards will take place March 28 in Vancouver.
