Tomas Reistad played his best game of the year in net to help the Quesnel Crossfire beat the Prince George Devils 10-4 on Thursday night (June 14).

The Quesnel goalie stopped 47 shots to move the Crossfire into a tie for second place with the Devils.

With the playoffs only a few weeks away and home advantage being fought for, the victory was an important one.

“I felt like I broke through a little dry spell there and had a lot more confidence this game,” says Reistad, who earned game-star honours for his performance.

“Our last couple games are against these guys and the [Prince George] Bandits, so it’s nice to get that edge going there and come in with a little more aggression.”

Hunter McSeveney continued his strong season by potting a hat trick, including a cheeky five-hole marker early in the second period.

Chase Ballendine had two goals and an assist, and Dusty Cathcart pinged the post several times attempting to get a goal, but had to settle for three assists.

The match turned rough with two minutes to go in the second period as the Crossfire’s Mitch Maclean fought with the Devils’ Dalton McEntire.

The Devils player, who was seemingly thrice the size, got the better of the punching exchange but left his team in a precarious position defensively as it was ruled he was responsible for instigating the fight.

Quesnel’s squad had what amounted to a 15-minute power play afterwards, and were able to coast to victory.

“It’s really hard when you have four men on (defense) and one of your guys gets kicked out for fighting,” says teammate Mitch Schulz.

“But we’re gearing up, getting ready for playoffs and hopefully getting hot at the right time.”

The first game of the playoffs, which will take place July 4, will be a match-ups between the second and third place teams.

The Crossfire will push to win the next couple of outings to ensure it takes place at West Fraser Centre.

Once again, the Tyke and Novice players took to the floor in between periods, drawing some big cheers from the crowd.
