Correlieu Seconday School hosted a five-team girl’s basketball tournament this weekend (Feb. 8-9).
Head Coach Kathy Gook says the team, despite not having much time to practise, played extremely hard in all their games.
They finished the round-robin tournament with a 2-2 record but were very competitive in their losses.
The Coyotes played Vanderhoof’s Northside Christian School in their first game and lost 53-46 .
Next, they faced Fort Saint James Secondary School and prevailed 43-35 and then Prince George’s D.P. Todd, who they lost against 52-47.
The tourney ended on a positive note with a 57-33 blow-out over Valemount Secondary School.
Gook says the game MVPs included Twyla Starr, who hit five three pointers in a row; Cassandra Ettinger, who played amazing defense - finishing with many steals and forcing many turnovers — and Emma Blair (who is actually a student at Quesnel Junior School) who played some excellent run and gun and hit many nice jump shots.
The team will play at the zone championships in Prince George this week (Feb. 14-15).
