The Quesnel Kangaroos and Williams Lake Stampeders played hard-hitting hockey on Saturday, October 29, at the West Fraser Centre with an almost sold-out crowd.

The Stampeders would take a 2-0 lead early, but the Kangaroos would cut the lead as Jordan draper came down and wired one past the Stamps’ goalies. Williams Lake led 3-1 after the first period.

The second period began with the Roos capitalizing as Draper scored his second goal of the night assisted by Paul Girodat. The Stamps would get one back quickly to make it 4-2, but Eli Jarvis used his speed to cut the lead to one assisted by Draper and Girodat. The second period ended 5-3, with the Stampeders maintaining the lead.

In the third period Chad Kimmie with the Kangaroos tipped one in making it 5-4 for the Stamps. The Stamps would score twice in a matter of minutes to make it 7-4. The Roos, however, had an electric comeback with Bryan Albee making it 7-5 with a fantastic shot top shelf. Minutes later Nick Tomassetti would go to the net and bury one to make it 7-6.

The game was winding down with the Roos pressuring and captain Alessio Tomassetti tying the game up.

The first overtime was back and fourth before going to double overtime when the Roos would cycle it around with Tomassetti to Jarvis who would find Draper back door to finish off the comeback.

“The fans jumped out of their seats roaring and cheering on their hometown,” said Tomassetti. “What a game.”

The Kangaroos will return to the West Fraser Centre with a doubleheader on Saturday, Nov. 12 against the Kitimat Ice Demons at 7:30 p.m. They’ll take on the Terrace River Kings at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13.
