Lakeview Elementary Team #2 came out victorious at the Elementary School Girls Volleyball District Championship on Tuesday (Nov 20).
The finals, which were held at Bouchie Lake Elementary, saw three teams compete in a round robin, with the first to capture two wins being named champs.
The winners beat out tough squads from Bouchie Lake and Red Bluff Elementary to emerge as the top team.
“There was great sportsmanship and great team spirit on display,” says Bouchie Lake Elementary principal Tim Lofstrom. “We had a lot of parents and community members in the gym, so it was a really great event for our school.
“There hadn’t been an event like this at Bouchie Lake for a while, so it was nice to have [the other schools] come to us.”

The first match pitted Lakeview 2 against Red Bluff. While Red Bluff were able to take the first squeaker of a game by a score of 25-22, Lakeview battled back to even up the match by beating their opponents 25-21 in the second game. A tie-breaker between the teams was won by Lakeview 15-5.
Match two saw Bouchie Lake face off against the eventual champs. The games were close once again, but the Lakeview 2 team was able to emerge winners by scores of 25-15 and 25-19.
The final match saw Red Bluff storm out of the gates again in the first game, beating Bouchie Lake 25-15. However, the home squad were not about to give up in front of their fans, so they fired back and tied up the match with a 25-19 win and then used the momentum to capture second place, beating Red Bluff 15-3 in the tiebreaker.
Lakeview 2’s coach is impressed with the output of her squad.
“The girls worked well together as a team,” she says. “They had good communication and did not give up,” adding: “There is a lot of natural talent on this team.”
Although the girls are the highlight of the competition, Lofstrom says the tournament owes a lot of gratitude to some of the adults.
“Big thanks to Rob McGauley, who is the principal of Riverview Elementary and our district sports coordinator,” he says. “He does a great job. Also big thanks to our parents for their support with the concession. We appreciate their help with that.”
