Lessons in humility: time spent learning is time well spent

A couple pointers from professionals can make your day on the snow more enjoyable.

Have you wondered why other skiers are passing you on every outing or how come back at the lodge they are talking about the 15 km trails and you would have to wear a headlamp to ski that far in a day?

As a long-term skier or for someone who is new to the sport, nothing pays off better than cross-country ski lessons.  While the sport is forgiving to newcomers, improving technique increases a skier’s enjoyment as the effort becomes less labouring adding glide to your shuffle or spring to your kick.

At any skill level, lessons will build confidence and improve your skiing ability and this allows a skier to tackle new terrain or trails and proceed down steeper grades with less hesitation.

While always a good fitness activity, improving technique means you can ski farther and faster with less effort.

If you have admired someone skiing in front of you or past you at Hallis Lake and remarked on the effortless and smooth style and ability, then consider engaging in a ski lesson that will help identify places to improve your own skills.

If you are still snowplowing or falling up and down the hills then lessons will improve your stability and control when climbing or descending.  You will enjoy longer glides and the quiet of the snow and wilderness instead of huffing and puffing struggling along the trails.

Lessons can be private or with groups and regularly scheduled lessons are Wednesday nights throughout the season at 7 p.m..  For more information on lessons and club events, check the website at www.caribooski.ca.
