Over a dozen teams battled it out on March 4 - 6 inside the Quesnel Curling Club, competing to win the 61st Ladies Wheel ‘N Spiel.
In the “A” event final, a team skipped by Lorna Schley defeated a team skipped by Kay Thompson 6-5.
It came down to the final rock for Thompson. She needed a deuce in the final end with the hammer to take the game into extra ends, but her final rock was heavy, only scoring one, and giving Schley the win.
Schley was joined by third Mae Ramsey, second Irene Deroche and lead Beth Russell.
The “B” final wasn’t as close, with Lori Wanryk’s team defeating Luanne Coffey by a final score of 8-2. Wanryk was up 5-0 after two ends, and the teams shook hands after only six ends of play.
Wanyrk’s team was rounded out by third Fay Pethick, second Donna Wanyrk and lead Mag Thompson.
The “C” final also ended after six ends, with Darla Duguid and Terri Matula shaking hands after Duguid went up 7-0.
Duguid’s team included third Dana Johansen, second Cara Kardynal and lead Carol Richter.
Johansen will be competing in both the mixed and senior provincial championships this month.
