Mud, gas and sun at the 4x4 race track in Quesnel

A wide range of vehicles raced through mud and dirt on the weekend

The smell of gas and the sounds of engines revving filled the air at the Quesnel 4x4 track for its races over the weekend.

Drivers raced the heavily customized vehicles through mud, over dirt mounds and across the large stretch of dirt. The North West Mud Racers Association collected donations for Nourish Food Bank at the entrance.

The two-day event featured racers in large trucks, sleek vehicles with as little weight as possible to boost speed and junior racers' small vehicles. Vehicles had personal design touches with emblems, designs and names painted on them.

Upcoming mud racing events will be in Valemount from Aug. 3 and 4, Chilliwack Aug. 17 and 18 and 100 Mile House Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.
