It was an inglorious end to an almost glorious season, as the District Clothing TQ Titans trounced the Quesnel Jacks 11-1 to sweep their best-of-three semi-final series in the Prince George Senior Baseball League.

“We dedicated ourselves to having a competitive team this year,” Jacks manager and player Randy Enns said of a season that saw the Jacks win more than they lost.

“When all of our players were able to make the game, we had good games.”

But the Titans were tough on the Jacks who were missing a few players and nursing some injuries.

Down 1-0 in the series, the Jacks had to win Friday’s game, but the bats just didn’t come alive.

Titan’s pitcher Jon Bourassa pitched five innings giving up one run on no hits.

“He’s a quality pitcher,”Enns said.

“He was very good,” Jacks pitcher Curtis Gassoff said.

The Jacks only run came in the top of the first inning as lead-off batter Eli Edman collected a walk.

Edman stole second, then third base.

Edman scooted home for the Jacks only point on a passed ball at the plate.

From then on Bourassa settled down, giving up just two more walks and striking out 12 Jacks batters.

Gassoff, on the mound for the Jacks, went four innings and a third before Will Quarry came in for the final two outs.

Gassoff gave up 11 runs on 10 hits, but the Jacks also committed four errors including two in the fifth inning which saw the Titans score five runs.

“We made critical throwing errors that led to unearned runs,” Enns admitted.

“That tends to deflate a team.”

Although Enns has already secured the services of some top-notch players for next summer, the disappointment of the current season lingers.

“It will be a long winters wait,” Enns said.
