The Quesnel Figure Skating club held their first public event in three years on March 12

The West Fraser Centre was filled with flips, toe loops and salchows as the Quesnel Figure Skating club held their Back Where We Belong Gala on Saturday, March 12.

It was the club’s first gala since March 11, 2020, the day the World Health Organization declared a global COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to 24 solo performances, participants in the Canskate learn to skate program showed off their progress from the previous year.

“The skaters have been able to do some events with no spectators but this was the first time we’ve been able to invite our canskaters to perform at a gala in two years,” coach Carly Dinicol said after the gala.

“We were all so excited to be able to invite the community in to see what our skaters have achieved. The challenges we’ve overcome the last two years and the restrictions have not stopped our skaters from excelling.”

Quesnel’s synchronized skating team also performed at the gala.
