The Quesnel Kangaroos recently spent their off-season hosting a week-long hockey camp for kids.
The senior men’s hockey team took to the West Fraser Centre and LeBourdais Park from Monday, Aug. 22 to Friday, Aug. 26, sharing their skills with approximately 40 aspiring hockey players.
“It was a great camp and everyone involved, including the kids, had a blast, ” said Kangaroos captain Alessio Tomassetti, who took charge of the dryland training.
“The kids learned a lot on and off the ice — they all did great and got stronger as the week went on.”
Head coach Harley Gilks was on the ice and agreed the kids had fun at the well-received camp supported by parents.
“I thought it was a win for sure,” Gilks said. “All the kids are a big part of our community, and guaranteed more than half of them were fans of the club.”
The first day saw kids presented with their own Kangaroos Mini Hockey Camp jersey.
Tomassetti and Gilks said based on the success, the camp will return next year.
“The Quesnel Kangaroos would like to thank the community and every kid involved,” Tomassetti said. “They made it a great week with smiles on their faces. We will see everyone again next August!”
