The annual Billy Barker Days Pickleball Tournament saw players from across northern B.C. compete.

The two-day weekend tournament at West Fraser Timber Park featured men’s and women’s doubles on July 16 and mixed doubles on July 17 in 3.0 and 3.5 skill levels.

Although some rain meant a delay in the finals on Saturday, Quesnel Pickleball Club secretary Wendy Forsythe said everything sill finished off perfectly.

”Our club is currently 107 members, and it feels like we’ve just barely scratched the surface,” Forsythe added.

“We have a number of people who are retired and older, but more and more young people coming out and doing very well at the sport.”

In 2021, the annual tournament was members only due to COVID-19.

This year, tournament director Callum Catto said a total of 71 players took part, with most playing both days.

“It’s great. So many out-of-town people came, and the weather’s been great,” Callum said, adding this was the first tournament scores were being done electronically.

“I think everyone’s had a good time.”

The Quesnel Pickleball Club will host its Tri-City tournament on Saturday, August 27, and Sunday, August 28.
