The Waveriders continue a tsunami of a summer with three of the club’s members expecting to swim in the B.C. Summer Games in Cowichan from July 19-22.
Gavin Currie, Darby O’Hara and Billy Swyers have all qualified to attend the meet after some impressive performances recently.
Also impressing provincially are Luca Armstrong and Boroka Peter, who will be swimming at the Tier I Provincials in Kelowna, June 22-24; as well as Audrey Jespersen, Hannah Trimble, Logan Godsoe, Billy Swyers and Garnet Currie, who will compete at the Tier II Provincial championships in Victoria from July 6-8.
Garnet Currie, who is in his last season as a swimmer for the club, represented them at the 55th Annual Mel Zajac International meet in Vancouver at the beginning of the month.
Olympic medalists and world-record holders Ryan Lochte and Caeleb Dressel as well as Canadian Olympic medalist and junior world record holder Penny Oleksiak were also competing at the meet, so it was definitely a highlight for Garnet and the Waveriders.
He scored two personal best times and swam well all around.
The team also competed in Kamloops at the TRU WolfPack International from June 2-4.
It was also a large event with teams from all over Western Canada attending.

Girls:
Norah Cameron (11) swam in the 11-12 year old category and got two personal best times.
Gavin Currie (13) swam in the 13-14 year old category and was in the top 20 in three of her events. She got six personal bests and made it to the B final in 50-metre breaststroke with an 11th place finish.
Darby O’Hara (14) had personal bests in all of her races. She was in the top 30 in five of them and came in 20th in 200-metre freestyle and 19th in 100-metre freestyle.
Boroka Peter (11) in the 11-12 year old category got four personal bests and was in the top 30 in three of her races. Her 200-metre freestyle was a Tier I Provincial qualifying time.
Petra Peter (8) swam in the 10-and-under category and had four personal best times.
Boys:
Francois Buys (10) finished in eighth place in the 50-metre butterfly event.
Harrison Fillion (16) was in the open age category and was in the top 20 in three of his events. He came 20th in 50-metre butterfly, 14th in 50-metre breaststroke and he made it to finals to change his prelim placing of 13th to 10th in the final for the 50-metre back stroke. He also had seven personal best times.
Seth Reddemann (14) was in the top 20 in his age group in seven of his events. He came eighth in 100-metre freestyle, seventh in 200-metre freestyle and then did a swim-off from a tied prelim time to get in the final and then got a sixth place finish in the 100-metre freestyle to go along with five personal best times.
Memphis Swaan (9) swam in the 10-and-under category in five events.
Billy Swyers (14) was in the top 10 in his age group in four events. He came sixth in 50-metre butterfly, fifth in 50-metre freestyle, fourth in 100-metre freestyle and made it to finals to change his prelim placing of seventh to get a bronze medal in the 50-metre breaststroke. Swyers got five personal best times and his races in 50-metre freestyle and 100-metre freestyle were Tier II Provincial qualifying times.
