A Quesnel downhill skier has qualified for the U16 national championships.
Elliot Jarrett, who helped Correlieu Secondary capture the provincial banner for alpine skiing, will be in Mont Tremblant, Que. to compete from March 28 - April 3.

To qualify, Jarrett finished 11th across two events held this season, one at SilverStar Ski Resort, and the other at Sun Peaks Ski Resort.
“Each event weekend, (split between men and women participants), consisted of four technical races, two 2 run Slalom races, two 2 run Giant Slalom races, and at Sun Peaks two single run Super Giant Slalom Races, a speed event, were added to the card for a total of 10 qualifying events,” reads an email from Lightning Creek Ski Club president Falko Kadenbach.
Jarrett will join 27 other athletes from B.C. who will compete at nationals.
“We could not be more proud of Jarrett as he is the first athlete to be invited to the U16 Nationals from our club,” Kadenbach said.
Kadenbach also thanked the club’s sponsors for helping contribute to Jarrett’s success, including Osisko Development - Barkerville Gold Division, Artemis Gold Inc., ABC Communications, West Fraser Mills, Fix Auto, Quesnel Sand and Gravel, Fraserview Pharmacy and Troll Ski Resort.
On Saturday, March 19, Kadenbach presented a $1,000 cheque to Jarrett to help him compete in Quebec.
