Quesnel archer disappointed after BC Winter Games cancelled

Kayden D’Entremont had qualified for the event, which was set to begin in Vernon this month

When organizers announced the 2022 BC Winter Games were cancelled, Kayden D’Entremont was one of many athletes who were upset.

The 14-year-old Quesnel River Archers member had qualified for the event, which was set to be held in Vernon this February.

D’Entremont qualified at an event in Quesnel held in November of 2021, which had archers from across the region.

“It was disappointing not being able to go, but I’m glad I trialed and I made it,” he said during a morning practice.

“I know what I’m capable of now, and I have the confidence to go into the next winter games trials.”

While BC Archery president Lora-Lee Murray is holding out hope Vernon will be able to host the 2022 games, just in 2023, D’Entremont is one of many local athletes looking forward to 2024. Quesnel is set to host the games in 2024.

D’Entremont, who shoots four or five days a week, said he was drawn to archery because it is an individual sport, and has helped relieve stress.

“I used to play baseball, and I always felt like I was the one who let the team down,” he said.

“The only person I let down when I’m not shooting good is myself.”

More information on the Quesnel River Archers is available on their Facebook page. The 2022 BC Indoor Archery Championships will be hosted in Quesnel this April.
