The 2023 edition of the BC Winter Games is about to launch in Vernon. The sportstravaganza happens March 23-26, with all Quesnel participants competing under the flag of Zone 8. There are 18 sports on the menu for this first Winter Games back from the pandemic lockdowns. It is an anomalous version of the BCWGs, because they were supposed to be held in 2022 but lockdowns necessarily affected the usual two-year planning cycle for the event. The advantage of that, for Quesnel, is this city hosts only one year later so our local organizing committee gets to watch the events unfold in Vernon and learn the latest best practices for relatively quick turnaround of that knowledge into action.
There are 15 people in the Quesnel competitive contingent.
Six of them are athletes:
Brooklyn Novak in archery
Avery Cassidy in ringette
Ivy Sinkinson in ringette
Petra Peter in alpine skiing
Anna Marie Kadenback in alpine skiing
Liv Boudreau in alpine skiing
In addition, there are also nine others going as either a coach or an official:
Dale Chapplow in archery (head coach)
Michelle Kadenbach in alpine skiing (head coach)
Adam D’Entremont in archery (mentor / coach apprentice)
Lora-Lee Murray in archery (mentor / coach apprentice)
Elizabeth Eyford in badminton (official)
Stuart Murray in archery (official)
Lisa Laundry in artistic gymnastics (official)
Chris Hyde in cross-country skiing (official)
Chris Kovach in cross-country skiing (official)
(Please note: there are sometimes glitches in the transfer of information, and there are also extenuating circumstances like changes in residency. If you know of other Quesnel athletes, coaches or officials not included on this list, please send an email to editor@quesnelobserver.com)
