The competition is underway for the two Quesnel athletes competing at the Canada Winter Games in PEI.

One of them competes today, the other tomorrow.

Figure skater Mitchell Dunn, 17, was on the ice Wednesday (March 1) for his first Pairs performance along with partner Jessie Sun of Richmond. The two did their Short Program at the Eliyahu Wellness Centre at Canada Games Place located in North Rustico, PEI. They scored a 26, putting them in 8th place (the first place pair scored a 39.31).

Dunn and Sun are back in action on Friday in the Free Program component. The event will be at 12:25 p.m. PEI time, which is 8:25 a.m. in Quesnel.

The opening bell for boxer Britynn “Hurricane” Carter,17, was supposed to be on Tuesday (Feb. 28) when she was scheduled to square off against Lily Brown of New Brunswick in the 60 kg weight class. Carter, who fights out of the 2 Rivers Boxing Club, was apparently disqualified, but no official explanation has been provided by the Games organizers, despite questions asked. Adding to the mystery is, Carter is scheduled to fight today (March 2) at the Sports Dome At Credit Union Place located in Summerside, PEI.

Carter’s opponent will be Saskatchewan’s Alex Mackenzie. Their fight gets underway at 6 p.m. Atlantic time, 2 p.m. in Quesnel.
