A Quesnel boxer hopes to add to their winning streak.

Brittyn “Hurricane” Carter has won 10 matches and is eyeing another successful bout on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 2 Rivers Boxing Club’s Rumble 30.

Carter, 16, recently returned to home turf with a red shield champion belt from the fifth annual Rip City Fall Classic Tournament in Portland, Oregon.

She won both her fights south of the border on Oct. 8 and Oct. 9 against Alexandra Luby and Joscelyn Sanchez.

“I was really nervous — the nerves never go away for me,” Carter said, noting she had trained lots.

The tournament marked her second time travelling with Team BC and the Boxing BC Association, as well as attending the Rip City Fall Classic.

This past summer, Carter was in Mexico where she won a couple of fights and enjoyed practicing.

“The first couple days we were there, we had a fight, and then we trained for a month,” she said. “It was so cool, and we got some really good training with two ex-pros, and then we had another fight at the end right before we went home.”

The matches marked Carter’s second time in Mexico, which she said sparked her passion to keep boxing as she wasn’t sure she would be able to put her gloves back on during the COVID-19 pandemic.

She anticipates more international matchups when she goes to Mexico for another month in late December, after which she will head to Prince Edward Island for the Canada Winter Games.

First, though, she will be sweating it out, seeing if she is able to continue her winning streak with another successful fight, this time at home.

Carter will be up against Kerowna Hamilton, a familiar opponent, on Oct. 22 at Rumble 30.

“Hopefully, it will be 11 wins on Saturday,” Carter said, thanking her family and coaches for helping and training her and always looking out for her best interests.
