The long-awaited return of boxing to Quesnel will feature two women who were recently featured on a pay-per-view card in Vancouver.
Melissa O’Flynn and Britynn Carter fought on the first Griffins Boxing pay-per-view of the year on Oct. 23 in Vancouver. O’Flynn ended up losing a close decision, with Carter, whose nickname is hurricane, picking up a win.
Both were excited just to get back in the ring.
“Her hands were just going,” O’Flynn said on Carter’s fight. “She literally lived up to (her nickname), her hands were going at hurricane speed.”
O’Flynn added coaches came up to her after the fight to say they thought she had won.
“I lost it, but it was honestly the best fight I’ve had,” Carter said. “(I got) my first knockdown… I thought I had won, and when the (referee) held her hand up, I was like ‘wait what?’”
Carter, O’Flynn and 2 Rivers Coach Wally Doern drove down to Vancouver to compete. While Carter has fought over a dozen times, it was O’Flynn’s third fight.

“(Boxing) is my happy place,” she said. “Before this I was pretty depressed, not in a good place in my life. I started boxing and I have way more confidence, I feel good, I can bring my kids, so my kids are getting exercise — I’m just happy when I’m here.”
Both Quesnel boxers will be in action on Nov. 13, as 2 Rivers Boxing in Quesnel will host their first event since November of 2019.
Rumble 28 features two shows, one with a noon start time, and one with a 7 p.m. start time. Pandemic restrictions mean seating will be limited. Admission is $25, with tickets available by calling 250-925-4834.
