QUESNEL CURLING SUPERLEAGUE: Final week sets up playoffs

Investors Group and Handi-Self Storage head into the Quesnel Curling Superleague playoffs as the top-ranked teams each with an 11-5 record.

Investors Group and Handi-Self Storage are heading into the Quesnel Curling Superleague playoffs as the top-ranked teams thanks to identical 11-5 records on the season, thanks to wins in last week’s action.

Investors Group made it very clear last week that they were flush with talent with a convincing 12-1 win over JAR Transportation.

In a game where old age and treachery were no match for the youth of the IG foursome and their misinformed belief they are also good looking.

Investors Group sent the JAR clan home early after cashing in on a few four-point ends on sheet C.

Handi Self Storage kept pace with IG as they collected a 6-4 win over Karin’s Deli on sheet D.

After teaching Itza Joe a thing or two about take outs last week, the Handi crew moved down Reid Street to deliver a case of disappointment to the Deli ladies.

A steal of one in the eighth end sealed the deal and sent the Deli gang home hungry.

On sheet F, Douglas Lake Equipment looked to keep pace with the frontrunners as they faced the dealers from the Billy Barker Casino on sheet F.

In what some claimed was the tightest game of the season, the Billy Barker crew pulled off a narrow victory, 6-5, to dash DLE’s hopes of sharing top spot on the leader board.

Both teams were short a player, including an absent skip from the Billy gang.  With lots of strategic shot making and never-ending sweeping, the match came down to the last shot to break the 5-5 tie.

A deeply buried, well-guarded rock by Billy proved to be the ace in the hole for the casino gang as they stole the winning point.

Both teams finish the season with a record of 10-6.

Also making the playoffs are the A&W squad who capped off their 9-7 season with an 8-4 win over Service Electric.

The game, on sheet B, was tight after four with Service Electric leading 3-2.

But then they were short-circuited in the fifth end and gave up five points and A&W never let Service Electric get reconnected.

On sheet E, the kids from the Child Develoment Centre also earned a spot in the league championships, despite a loss to Cariboo Pulp.

The action on sheet E was proof that Hell had frozen over as the Pulp sweepers finally won a game.

Cariboo Pulp got an early lead,  a gift from CDC and kept rolling for a lopsided win, so lopsided the score could not be reported.

Headed to the consolation round or Service Electric (7-9), Karin’s Deli (6-10), JAR Transportation (5-11) and Cariboo Pulp (3-13).
