Quesnel Figure Skating Club prepares for upcoming competition

Skaters will be in West Kelowna next weekend

Quesnel figure skaters will be off to West Kelowna for their first competition of the season.

Skaters sharpened their routine at Arena 2 on Friday, Nov. 18, in front of family and friends as the Quesnel Figure Skating Club held a simulation in advance of the Okanagan Interclub.

“Today was the first time skaters have competed in front of an audience for the year, and then lots of them haven’t competed regularly due to COVID, so this is our first time in two years that we’ve had a regular competitive season, and we’re really excited,” said director of skating Carly Dinicol.

More than 10 local skaters will compete at the Okanagan Interclub at Royal LePage Place from Friday, Nov. 25, to Sunday, Nov. 27.

They all posted personal bests last year.

The Quesnel Figure Skating Club attends the out-of-town competition annually.

“The kids are working really hard. They’re very motivated, and they are a really tight-knit crew,” Dinicol said, adding their season is off to a great start. “The whole coaching staff is really proud.”

Quesnel figure skater Mitchell Dunn, who recently moved to Vancouver, has once again qualified for nationals.
