The Quesnel Technics Gymnastics Club has been busy over the spring, with training, travel, and local athletes vaulting into podium positions all across the province.
QTGC president Jade Kotzer outlined the club’s latest successes.
“April 22-23 our CCP3 (Canadian Competitive Program) athletes traveled to Langley to compete in the Gymnastics BC Compulsory Championships. Well we couldn’t be more proud of these young ladies,” Kotzer said. “They placed 2nd as a team out of 21 teams in the province.”
Along with that, Eden Pelletier placed 1st overall and 1st on beam and floor in her age group.
In this same age group Xadie Novak placed 3rd overall and 3rd on beam and Mackenzie Delaney placed 4th on beam.
In the younger CCP3 age group Mia Lacy placed 5th on floor and 8th on bars.
Addison Strang placed 1st overall and 1st on bars, beam, 1st (tied) on floor, and 2nd on vault. She scored a club season-high score of 9.95 on bars.
“The first weekend of April had our CCP6 & 7 athletes competed in Surrey at the Gymnastics BC Optionals Championships,” Kotzer added.
Courtney Kitamura in CCP7 received 2nd on uneven bars and 3rd overall in her age group.
Avery Strang and Sayla Forman both won uneven bars in their CCP6 age group.
Kassia Kitamure won vault in CCP6 and Reese Hackney placed 3rd on floor in CCP6.
Freya Cormack placed 8th on beam and 8th on floor in CCP6.
There was more. Some of the QTGC competitors travelled to the Prince George Invitational on May 6-7 and the Northern Lights Invitational in Fort St. John on April 15-16.
The club also took the unusual step of competing in some of the numbers at the Quesnel Performing Arts Festival’s dance competition, demonstrating how closely related the two artistic athletic activities really are.
The club hosted a sold out spring break camp, as well, showing how strong the gymnastics community is within Quesnel.
