There will be no storybook beginning to the Quesnel Kangaroos’ Coy Cup-hosting season.

Last year’s Central Interior Hockey League champs fell short 8-5 against their foes from Williams Lake in the season opener at the West Fraser Centre on Saturday (Sept. 28).

The Stampeders used a pair of three-goal periods in the second and third to keep the home team at bay.

Assistant captain Tommy Grant was one of the bright spots for the Roos, posting a pair of goals and a couple assists for four points.

Alessio Tomasetti, who is now wearing the C on his jersey since Waylon L’Heureux relinquished the title this off-season, notched a goal and an assist too.

Also finding the back of the net for the Roos were Adam Chapman and Bryan Allbee.

The Roos will have an opportunity to right their record this weekend as they travel north for games against Prince Rupert, Kitimat and Terrace.

Unfortunately the home fans will be waiting some time for a win in Quesnel, as the Roos will not be playing again at the West Fraser Centre until Nov. 2.
