Quesnel River Archers shot their way to a trio of first-place prizes at Big Horn Archery’s Indoor 3D shoot in 100 Mile House this weekend (March 17-18).

Out of the eight archers that the local sharp shooting club sent down, six landed Top 5 finishes, while the other two just shot the one day, so were not eligible.

Kayla Erickson placed first in Female Cub Barebow, Lora-Lee Murray and Angelique Justason finished first and second respectively in Senior Ladies Barebow, and Stu Murray finished first in Master Men’s Barebow, while Dan and Tristan Yalowega finished fourth and fifth in Senior Men’s Barebow.

“We’re very pleased [with the results].” says Lora-Lee Murray, “We had a really great time.”

Indoor 3D shoots see the archers take aim at a variety of foam targets in settings that can imitate real hunting situations.

Murray says the 100 Mile House club had a creative setup, which many of the competitors liked.

“We sat on a saddle stand and shot a target, and then we had to shoot through six feet of sonotube, which are long cardboard tubes they pour cement into, which was decorated like a log.

“They also took burlap sacks and made them look like tree trunks. It was fabulous.”

Up next for the club will be the 2019 BC Indoor Archery Championships in Victoria.

Murray says up to 20 members from the club plan to attend the event, which will be held on the Easter weekend, April 19-21.
