It only takes a couple of players to make a tennis match happen, and there were four on a sunny June Saturday in West Fraser Timber Park.

One of the courts at the tennis location was unused, but Paul Mednis, Les Obst, Branko Cervienka and Vic Hegan gave themselves a run for their collective and individual money on the other, choosing to play doubles.

They served up their friendly games, sets and matches before the zenith of the heat but took full advantage of the bright day. With walkers, biking, softball, pickleball, and the annual Foam Fun Run all happening at the same time, the distinctive sounds of racket striking tennis ball added some pop to the soundtrack of summer.

They could just as easily have come over in the evening for their tennis fix. The courts are now equipped with lighting. The lights were installed around the Quesnel Pickleball & Tennis courts thanks to a 2022 fundraising campaign, extending play times in the mornings and evenings. The Quesnel Pickleball Club contributed a grant and private funds towards this project, in the amount of $13,000. The project received over $71,000 obtained by the City of Quesnel through the Canada Community-Building Fund grant program.

Anyone who wants to play tennis can drop in anytime. If the courts are already in use, just offer to join or wait for the conclusion of the matches underway.
