The Quesnel Waveriders were once again making news at their swim invitational Jan. 14 – 15 where they had 115 swimmers compete. A long with the 47 swimmers from Quesnel there were 46 competitors from Prince George and 21 from Williams Lake.

Highlighting the invitational for the Waveriders was Gavin Currie who brought home silver in the 11-12 year old girls category, Luca Armstrong and Owen Larsen who earned gold and silver in the 11-12 year old boys division, Natasha Hanson and Grace Currie who placed first and third in the 13 and over girls category and Garnett Currie, Leif Brandson and Billy Swyers who swept the podium, earning gold, silver and bronze.

Hannah Trimble and Logan Godsoe also had terrific performances in the Para Olympic division, where Trimble earned three AAA provincial standard times and one Canadian-American standard and Godsoe achieved five Canadian American standards.

Head coach Jeritt Brink of the Waveriders said all the swimmers in the competition performed great.

“I want to take this opportunity to express just how thrilled I am with everyone and everything that transpired at the local swim meet we just recently hosted,” Brink said.

“All of the swimmers from our beginners to our advanced did really well. It was so nice to see the young swimmers watching the older swimmers in awe at their level/speeds and at the skills they have, which they will be developing over the next several years. I’m very proud of all the swimmers.”
