The Quesnel Curling Centre was busy last weekend (Jan. 19-21) with the Quesnel Ladies Curling Club holding its 58th annual Wheel ‘n’ Spiel.

Bonspiel chair Shar Berg and her committee put on another fun bonspiel with the theme Disney Cruise.

Twenty teams played off over the weekend, which saw the Lori Freeman rink take the A event.

Lori and her teammates, Carly Backer, Rhonda Christenson and Maryanne Morrison beat the Whitney Christy rink in a close game — they were tied after the fourth and sixth ends — by a score of 8-5.

Playing with Whitney were Kathy Somerville, Angela Curle and Nancy Last.

Placing third and fourth in the A event were the Lori Wawyrk and Wendy Needham teams.

The winner of the B event was the Terry Shpak team.

Terry and her teammates, Jenny Rubisch, Diane Sanderson and Jamie Wilson, beat the Connie Pomeroy rink in a close game, tied after the fifth end, by a score 5-3.

Playing with Connie were Linnea Hedden, Julie Thony and Sue Vachon.

Placing third and fourth in the B event were the Donna Wawryk and Evelyn Lawson teams.

The winner of the C event was Kaye Lynn Thompson from Prince George, and her teammates, Selena Gook, now in Westlock, Alberta; and Paige Flanagan and Raeille Perry, both from Quesnel.

Kaye, a former high school curler in Quesnel, beat the Dana Johansen rink in another good game, tied after the fourth end, by a score 7-3.

Playing with Dana were Kara Kardynal, Carol Richter and Diana Thompson.

The third and fourth place finishers in the C event were Cathy Karey and Gloria Ardell rinks.
