The Quesnel Thunder Atom Select team travelled to Kamloops last weekend for that city’s Remembrance Day Classic Hockey Tournament and brought home first prize.

Quesnel’s team of nine- and 10-year-olds beat out 16 other teams at the tournament.

In the championship game against Kelowna, Atom Select player Dawson Ernst scored an incredible six of Quesnel’s 10 goals. The team beat the Okanagan rival 10-4 to take gold.

Team manager Mike Ernst says the first game of the tournament was the team’s first win of the year. They continued to go from strength to strength after that initial boost, he adds.

“They’ve been struggling a bit and this was their first tournament this year. But the kids really came together and we saw leaders emerge.”

Ernst says he and the team’s coaches are proud of the players for all their hard work on the ice over the weekend.
