While Quesnel Technics Gymnastics Club’s (QTGC’s) competitive team earns its fair share of glory, its Interclub squad deserves plenty of recognition too.

Designed to expand the scope of participation in recreational gymnastics, Interclub puts a focus on performance without some of the rigid structures that can come into play with the competitive side of the practice.

While participants can build towards showcasing their skills, there aren’t any compulsory elements for their routines.

“They can do whatever they want in their routine as long as they’re performing it well,” says Elizabeth Floyd, the Interclub program co-ordinator for QTGC.

“It’s all about performance. There are no limitations.

“They can have props, they can have music that has words in it, they can do anything!

“They can swing on a rope in their routine if they want to and it doesn’t matter.

“It’s just all about gymnastics and fun.”

There are three categories for Interclub; Performance, Performance Plus, and Performance Challenge.

Performance is for all athletes age six years old and up, and they are awarded with positive comments on their score card and a participation medal.

Performance Plus and Performance Challenge athletes must be a minimum of nine years old and are awarded with Gold, Silver or Bronze based on their performance and execution of their skills.

The club competed at the 2018 Prince George Invitational on May 5.

Katelynne Singer, Lily-Grace Winthrope, and Tempest Yaffe participated as Performance and received many compliments on their performances.

Carmen Silva, Carolyn Biller, and Danica Harris participated as Performance Plus.

Katelynne Singer and Carmen Silva won ‘Dazzling Dancer’ awards for the gracefulness and artistry in their floor routines.

Carmen Silva won gold on floor and vault, silver on beam and all-around as well as bronze on bars.

Carolyn Biller won gold on floor and silver on bars, beam, vault and all-around.

Danica Harris won gold on vault and floor and silver on bars, beam and all-around.

“It is Carmen, Carolyn, Danica, and Tempest’s first year participating in Interclub,” Floyd says.

“They were all nervous at first; however, they lit up when it was their turn to perform.

“Katelynne and Lily-Grace have been performing with Interclub for three years now and have always done very well.

“They are wonderful role models and leaders for the new girls that join the team.”
