A hattrick of our athletes will be putting the ring in the net for a Canadian team in an international tournament.
Quesnel players Tesa Rorke and Elyse Anderson, plus Prince George player Devyn Bjorn, wil be suiting up for an all-star selects squad headed to Prague for the annual Czech Lions Cup event July 21-23. It’s one of the premier tournaments in the world for the U16 and U19 age brackets.
Teams are scheduled from host Czechia, Finland, and the Canadians coached by veteran Kelowna manager Michele Drescher.
“An opportunity like this is absolutely amazing. I am so excited to play the sport I love, with other girls from B.C., against international teams in Czechia. This opportunity is something I would never have imagined,” said Rorke.
Anderson said “I’ve had some amazing experiences, travelling to Vancouver for provincials, Regina for Westerns, and now Prague with the B.C. elite. I’m so excited to play ringette in another country against teams from Finland and Czechia.”
Bjorn added, “An opportunity like this means a lot to me because it’s a once in a lifetime trip, to be asked to play in a different continent against international teams with two of my closest friends.”
All three thanked their families for the opportunity to join this roster, and connect their sport to life-building experiences. These three have played together on a Drescher team before, having worked with her on that Team BC group that went to Regina in ‘21.
“I started playing ringette when I was eight years old and every year I appreciate it more. I love how competitive it can be, how much fun it is, and that I have made many new friendships,” Rorke said. “This will be an experience I will never forget.”
Anderson said the competitive aspect and the fun of the sport are what draw her to it.
Bjorn echoed that, adding “I have so much love for this sport.”
Travel has a way of making feelings grow.
