Results from Quesnel Rodeo

Cowboys and cowgirls from across north and central British Columbia took to the rodeo arena at Alex Fraser Park in Quesnel last weekend for the annual Quesnel Rodeo.

Dustin Spiers of Quesnel is headed for a bit of a rough landing during the junior steer riding competition at the Quesnel Rodeo last weekend. Spiers walked away unharmed.

Cash Kerner earned first and second place in bareback riding with 84 and 78 point rides, respectively.  Kerner took home just over $1,200 for his efforts.  Steve Hohman of Quesnel along with Jared Marshall and Greg VanWinkle each finished with 75 points and shared the prize earning for third - sixth place, each pocketing $203.25

In the saddle bronc event, Garrett Madley earned first and second place with rides of 79 and 73 points, respectively, ahead of Ryland Derose with a 66 point ride.  Madley pocketed just over $1,400 and Derose tucked $499.67 into his saddlebag.

Jerry Tucker of Williams Lake took the tie-down roping competition for a gain of $809.10.  Clayton Freemantle and Virgil Poffenroth finished second and third, respectively for gains of $641.70 and $446.4

Steer wrestling saw Mike Gill take the lead with a time of 4.9 sec ahead of Kyle Larden and Ty Mason.  Gill went home with $734.40 for his quickest time.

Breakaway roping saw Charlie Soffel of Vanderhoof post an amazing 2.1 sec. to earn just over $800 in first-place prize money.  Bailey Poffenroth also cracked the three-second barrier with a time of 2.9 sec, ahead of Rayel Bremner and Rhoda Antoine who tied for third with a time of 3.3 second.

In ladies barrel racing, Katie Garthwaite collected $987.12 for her first-place time of 15.955 sec.  Paige Schmitke and Bobby Denner finished in second and third place with times just fractions over 16 sec.

In team roping Cash and Carey Isnardy finished with a best time of 6.4 sec. to each earn $1136 for their first-place finish.  Colby Steward and Chad Braaten finished second in a time of 6.7 sec. and Neal Antoine and Carey Isnardy took third place in a time of 7.6 seconds.

In #8 team roping, Cody and Chad Braaten took first place, Cecil Louis and Vic Gerard took second place, with Brady and Wade McNolty finishing in third place.

In junior barrel racing, Sarah Mack earned $379 for her first-place finish in a time of 16.545 sec.  Kellie McKenzie finished second and Savanah Watson finished third.

In junior steer riding, Jake Gardner scored an 82-point ride, good enough for first place and a payout of $283.  Jimmy Sulin hung on for 77 points and a $228 payout for second place.  Levi Lawlor collected $173 for his third-place finish.

Mathew Armes took first place in junior breakaway roping with a time of 2.8 sec.   Kyle Bell and McKenzie Wills finished second and third, respectively with times of 3.8 sec. and 4.9 sec.

Amy Hume took the peewee barrel racing competition with a time of 17.769 sec.  Hume tucked $196 into her saddlebag for her efforts.  Second and third place went to Elly Farmer and Emily Hohmann, respectively.
