The Quesnel ringette teams headed to Prince George last weekend for a ton of ring action and the senior teams cashed in on their opponents.

The U19 team came home with two wins and a tie.

Both wins came against Prince George.

In the first game, Quesnel skated to a 9-2 win and followed that with an 8-8 tie against Houston.

“It wasn’t their best effort,” coach Melinda Moorhouse said of the tie.

“But they hung in there.”

Quesnel bounced back in their third game and came away with a convincing 8-3 win that included a save on a breakaway by netminder Colleen Moorhouse.

Leading the way on the scoresheet for the Quesnel U19 team were Ricki Burt and blueliners Cheyann Newman and Jessica MacDonald.

“They both flew into the offensive zone to score highlight reel goals,” Moorhouse said of Newman and MacDonald.

The U19 girls next see action Dec. 3 and 4 when they travel to Houston.

The U14 team also had a successful trip to Prince George as they finished with three wins and a tie.

U14 coach Vern Belcher was pleased with the effort his team displayed, particularly on defence, which he said was key to the team’s success.

“We had good defensive coverage and our tenacious checking were key,” Belcher said giving the nod to Katie Poole, Rachel Phillips, Shawna Gagnon and Taylor McBride.

“We also had excellent goaltending by Dakota Gatzke who took game star honours in our second game.”

Belcher also pointed to team captain Casey Richert, as well as Jaimie Bell who led by example with determined two-way play.

The Quesnel U14 team started the weekend off with an 8-6 win and followed that up with a 9-5 win that featured a goal by rookie Mary-Katherine Riley.

“That was an inspirational moment for our team,” Belcher said.

Game three had the U14 Quesnel team skate to a come-from-behind 7-4 win after being down 4-1 after 20 minutes of play.

In their final game of the weekend, the Quesnel U14 ringette team skated away with a 7-7 tie.

Scoring for the U14 team came from several fronts, which pleased Belcher.

Leading the way was Jennica Hanson with 10 goals. Adding their two-cents worth were Richert, McBride, Gagnon, Bell, Olivia Belcher, Keana Lefebvre and Sammi Skinner.

Quesnel also sent two U12 teams to Prince George. The U12 blue team finished with a record of two wins and two losses and the U12 white team came home with a win, a tie and two losses.

The U10 team came home with a win, a tie and two losses and the U9 team collected two wins, a loss and a tie.
