The Quesnel Kangaroos had two wins over the weekend, the first on the road in Williams Lake and the second in their final game of the regular season against Nechako.
On Friday (Jan. 31) the Roos faced the Williams Lake Stampeders and got a 5-1 victory over them.
In the first period, the Stampeders scored their first, and last, goal of the game while the Roos didn't score any. The second period is when things kicked off for the Kangaroos as they had goals from Brody Dale, Corson Nordick and Brayden Dale.
The Roos continued scoring in the third period where Brayden Dale scored another, as did Mitchell Brown, giving the team a large 5-1 win over one of the strongest teams in the league.
Saturday (Feb. 1) saw the Kangaroos continue to very well as they bounced back from a rough weekend on the road recently.
They faced the Nechako Northstars at the West Fraser Centre and ended the game with a significant 7-0 win.
"They have a really, really good goalie and he's been the backbone of their team for years. When he plays, it always seems to be a struggle to score and you need to get 60, 70 shots on him to get a couple," said Roos coach Jordan Draper. "Over the course of the 60 minutes, he got worn out a bit."
The first and second periods had just one goal scored in each, the first by Brayden Yager and the second by team captain Alessio Tomassetti. The third period is where things really picked up for the Roos.
Darby Madill scored the first goal of the period, Caden Cygan followed up shortly after with one of his own. A few minutes later Chad Kimmie scored twice in a row and with just under two minutes left in the game Alessio Tomassetti scored the team's seventh of the game.
"We controlled the whole game," Draper said.
The playoff schedule for the league has yet to be released but as winners of their division, the Roos get a by for the first round of playoff matches. Draper said the by gives the players a chance to recover and spend time at home before getting back on the ice.
