The Quesnel Kangaroos season of exciting hockey has come to an end after the team's second defeat to the Terrace River Kings on Saturday (Mar. 15).
Last week, the Roos lost their first game against Terrace at the West Fraser Centre, with two losses in the best of three series, it's over for the Roos.
In Saturday's first period, both the Roos and River Kings managed to net two goals. The River Kings' first goal was almost immediately after the game started, their second goal came not long after, just three minutes into the period.
The Roos bounced back with two goals in less than a minute with Mitchell Brown scoring the team's first goal of the game, assisted by Brody Dale and Chase Astorino. Just after, Steel Quiring tied things up with an assist from Eli Jarvis and Astorino.
Early into the second period, Terrace scored a goal bringing it to 3-2. But the Roos took the lead by the end of the period with two more goals. The first came from Steel Quiring, assisted by Alessio Tomassetti and Brody Dale. Once again, the Roos had momentum and less than a minute later they scored again. This time it was Brett Mero who was assisted by Brody Dale and Jordan Lowe.
Going into the third period, the Roos had a 4-3 lead over Terrace.
Just five minutes into that final period, the River Kings scored again. The teams battled through the rest of the period, taking shots at each other's nets but the goalies blocked everything that was thrown at them. It looked like things would go into overtime but with two minutes on the clock, Terrace scored and ended the Roos' playoff run.
The River Kings won the Cameron Kerr Cup last season as well, besting the Williams Lake Stampeders. They will move on to the Coy Cup in Prince Rupert.
