The up and coming rodeo stars of tomorrow participated in a rough stock clinic April 7-9 at Alex Fraser Park.

The clinic featured bull and steer riding, bareback and saddle bronc and 27 students participated in the event.

The clinic was put on by the Quesnel Rodeo Club because the members believed it will be a huge benefit to the sport locally.

Matt O’Flynn - one of the clinic instructors - has put on bull-riding clinics the past few years, but this year the club decided to include the other events.

It was a full three days for the students as they focused on classroom instruction and riding.

During the classroom instruction, organizers showed video footage of professionals, so they could show the students what they are doing correctly during their rides.

The other instructors included Steve Hohmann, Cash Kerner and Jared Marshall, who are all former champions at the British Columbia Rodeo Association level.

Quesnel Rodeo Club president Ray Jasper says a big focus of this year’s clinic was to help improve the numbers of saddle and bareback bronc riders.

“An event like this will only help these young riders as they improve on their skills and it will also help grow the sport at the grassroots level.”
