The Quesnel Terrors put up a fearsome fight and came home with a terrific medal.
The U15 softball team travelled to Kelowna to fight for the provincial podium at the Softball B.C. championship tournament. They put themselves in a great playoff position, with a record of three wins and one loss in their round-robin pool, giving them the sixth seed out of 17 teams in the event.
Then the real work began, clawing through some of the best teams in the province to try to get a medal.
“Quesnel won their first playoff game against Cache Creek with a come back win in the seventh inning. The girls were behind by two runs, they rallied to score seven runs, and win the game 9-4,” said Krystle Beaudry, one of the team’s coaches and parent of a player.
Next came the hometown team Kelowna Heat, and the Terrors came away with an 8-4 win, which was especially meaningful because it meant they would next be playing for a medal.
“This was an emotional win for us as our goal was to come home with a medal and this win accomplished this goal,” said Beaudry. “But the girls weren’t finished yet. They rallied again against the undefeated Central Saanichton Extreme and came out on top with 15-14 win. This moved us to the gold medal game.”
The medal was assured, but not the colour. In the end, up against the Enderby Storm, the Quesnel team couldn’t chip in the final few runs necessary. They took the silver with a score of Enderby 9, Quesnel 7.
“Overall we are extremely proud of these girls. They played hard, defence was awesome, pitching was amazing and the girls crushed the ball all weekend long,” said Beaudry. “We stayed positive playing through the plus-35 degree heat and battled time and time again. We’ve never coached a team with this much heart before it was truly amazing to watch and be a part of.”
The team is comprised of Alliesha King, Tylor Jensen, Raleigh McTavish, Aurora Hydamacka, Mya Pelletier, Adrianna Faggiani, Hannah Kopetski, Kali Matter, Hollyn Roswell, Mackenzie Gilks, Payton Beaudry and a coaching staff of Krystle Beaudry, Dave Beaudry and junior coach Deakon Beaudry.
