Softball is hard at it in Quesel

Girls’ softball is on at West Fraser Timber Park almost every day

The local baseball season is underway in all its forms, including the Quesnel Girls Softball Association (QGSA)

There are five age brackets in the QGSA league, this year: U11, U13, U15, U17, and U20.

Games for the U15 and U20 divisions are played Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. The U11s and U13s play Mondays and Wednesdays. Every night is a good night to enjoy baseball at the park; fans are always welcome.

After pre-season evaluations and warm-ups indoors at the soccer facility, the first games got going outside on May 1.

There will be an invitational tournament coming up on June 16-17.

Note that softball is also sometimes called fastball or fast-pitch. The rules and dimensions are slightly different than traditional baseball (sometimes also called hardball) especially the size of the ball (softball is larger) and the delivery of the pitch (softball uses the windmill, baseball uses overhand).

Many players participate in both versions of the sport, many choose one to focus on. As long as the athletes get to play ball, it’s all a benefit to community and player alike.

Umpires are needed for all forms of baseball. These paid positions are great for teens and adults who love to stay connected to the game, or seniors who have the time to devote to the beloved sport.

Look up any local baseball league on Facebook and explore the photos and posts to find umpire links or email contacts.
