Strikers split season starter

The Quesnel Strikers rep soccer teams had a great start to the Cariboo Soccer League season Sunday as they hosted teams from Williams Lake and 100 Mile.

The six Strikers team finished the day with five wins and seven losses.

The U15 girls led the way for Quesnel, posting two wins in tight matches against 100 Mile, a 2-1 decision in the morning and a 2-0 win in their afternoon tilt.

Coach Iain Brown was pleased with the wins as well as the way his team played.

“They played a strong possession game,” Brown said.

“I was very satisfied with their passing and ball control.”

The U13 Strikers girls team split their games against two separate teams from Williams Lake.

In the morning matchup, the U13 girls lost a nail-biter 1-0.

In the afternoon game they came out gunning to post a convincing 6-1 win to even their record on the day.

The U13 Strikers boys team, coached by Neil MacKay split their games against Williams Lake and 100 Mile House.

In the morning, the U13 boys lost 4-2 to Williams Lake, but rebounded in the afternoon to earn a win over the 100 Mile House U13 boys.

The U16 Strikers boys also split their two games.

The U16 boys won their morning matchup, 1-0 against the 100 Mile House U15 boys team.

The afternoon was less kind to the U16 boys, as they took it on the chin, 5-3 against an older U17 team from 100 Mile House.

Despite the loss, coach Kam Dosanjh was pleased with the play of his team, notably his goal keeper.

“He did very well,” Dosanjh said of Striker keeper Konrad Teetzen.

The U11 girls team, coached by Gilbert Schotel and the U12 Strikers boys team didn’t fair as well as the other Stikers teams as they each lost both of their games to their counterparts from Williams Lake.

The Quesnel Denny’s Strikers now have their focus on this weekend when they travel to Kamloops for the annual Slurpee Cup.

The following weekend the  Strikers travel south to 100 Mile House for more Cariboo Soccer League action.
