Skip Darcy Tollefson’s rink swept through the competition at the Williams Lake Curling Club to take first place in the men’s bonspiel.

“We played as a team,” Tollefson said was the key to the successful weekend.

“We capitalized when we had our chances.”

In the bonspiel final, the first end proved to be the difference as Braidy Waffle of Quesnel crashed with his last rock which allowed the Tollefson rink to put four points up on the board.

Waffle spent the rest of the match trying to close the gap, but Tollefson managed to maintain a comfortable lead until Waffle ran out of rocks and Tollefson scored the 9-6 victory to win the bonspiel final.

The Tollefson rink, with Nick Sarabyn at third, Gord Reid at second and Josh Blackmore at lead, was perfect at the bonspiel with a record of 5-0, with only a single game decided in the eighth end.

“We figured out the rocks and the ice quicker than the other teams,” Tollefson explained.

The win entitles Tollefson to participate in the Dominion Cup playdowns in Prince George, Mar. 11-13.  Tollefson will be joined by his regular third, Tim Richards.

A win in Prince George would send Tollefson to Richmond for the provincial qualifier and a shot at the Dominion Cup championships in PEI.
