There was a frozen rush of off-road racing in Quesnel this past weekend.
Dozens of trucks raced through snow and ice at the mud bog track drawing enthusiastic crowds Saturday, Feb 5 and Sunday, Feb. 6.
One of the racing classes was “beater with a heater.” Driver Pierre Bouchard arrived a day early to build himself an igloo for overnight snow camping.
“It’s not winter racing without an igloo,” he said
Bouchard had moved to Quesnel from Quebec about seven years ago.
At the Snowvid-19, The Race he was joined with family and friends, and his pit crew.
“I’m feeling amazing,” Bouchard said Sunday before finals. “I’m ready to go race.”
Quesnel Off-Road Association timing volunteer Katie Hough confirmed they had 25 racers for the weekend, with most from Quesnel.
Others came from Prince George, Vanderhoof, Vernon, Peachland, Houston and even as far as Grande Prairie and Edmonton.
In the big tire final, Steven Epp of Quesnel finished with a first-place win, followed by Sam Davies, also of Quesnel, and Luke Pittman of Peachland.
Quesnel small tire drivers Rob Wilkin, Catlin O’Flynn and Jacob Shore finished the finals with a first, second and third place performance.
The beater with a heater final race saw Keane Blight of Prince George placing first followed by Prince George racer Tyler Tressiera and Alex McAbee of Quesnel.
