Then, one of the two biggest days of gymnastics competition in Quesnel is coming to West Fraser Centre on June 4.
It’s a back-to-back power pack of tumbles, bars, rings, beams, and all the artistry that infuses this unique collection of sports.
The Quesnel Technics Gymnastics Club didn’t want to pass up an opportunity to turn a big gymnastics show into a huge gymnastics show, each day with a different end goal. Day 1 is the Gold Pan Invitational and Day 2 is the Zone 8 Championships.
“We are counting down the days until our big event, hosting not one but two competitions” said Jade Kotzer, president of the club. “Its actually a pretty huge event we are throwing but it’s coming together nicely. We have judges flying in from Vancouver and the equipment coming from the Kootenays.”
The Gold Pan Invitational is the club’s own event, and has been a regular feature on their calendar in past years. Hosting the Zone 8 competition is a rare opportunity, however. When the chance came to be hosts of the prestigious regional event, it just made logistical sense to combine them.
“To recoup the cost of equipment rental and arena rental, we knew we had to put on something big. So we decided to host two competitions in one weekend,” Kotzer said. “Nothing this big,” has ever been hosted here before, and the club is “excited to host clubs from Williams Lake, Prince George, Fort St John and Dawson Creek. All levels will be there from CCP 1-8 and Xcel bronze-platinum. Over 150 athletes each day. “
Admission (cash only) each day is: regular $7, kids 12-4 are $5, families are $15, with discounted prices for weekend pass and kids under 4 are free.
At both events there will be baskets, raffles and 50/50 features.
