The Waveriders Swim Club was in Prince George for its first meet of the season Nov. 17-18.

The swimmers had excellent results, with 25 taking part and 18 achieving top 10 individual results. Many of the swimmers also got personal best (PB) times.

The Waveriders relay teams also had outstanding finishes, with all of Quesnel’s teams landing in the top three.

The swim team welcomes some new members this season, as young swimmers join the team as well as some seasoned competitors: 15-year-old swimmers Lucy and Audrey Jespersen, who join the Waveriders from Quesnel’s Sealions summer swim club.

Audrey achieved provincial-qualifying times in both the 50-metre and 100-metre freestyle races.

Twelve-year-old Luca Armstrong also had five provincial qualifying times for his age group, and he won second place overall aggregate for the 11-12 boys.

Billy Swyers, 14, got two provincial qualifying times. He won bronze overall aggregate for his age group.

And in the 15 and over category, Garnet Currie, 17, got two provincial qualifying times.

Waveriders coach Jeritt Brink says he’s very pleased with the first meet of the season.

“It was a great meet for all in attendance with many personal best times and a couple kids up on the aggregate points podium.”

With the Jespersen girls having just joined the team, Brink says they had a great first swim for the club.

“They were a tad worried because none of the summer swimming times they’ve accumulated over their swim careers are transferable... so every race was a new, fresh time for them.

“They made very close to some old times, and took a few new PBs as well.”

Next up for the Waveriders is a meet in Kamloops on Dec. 15-17.Full Quesnel results
