On Sat. Feb. 19, 11 members of the Cariboo Ski Touring Club participated in the Cariboo Gold Rush Marathon held in 100 Mile House. Brian Black and Sally Johnston finished ahead of the pack in their respective races and both won gold in the 50-km Classic event.

The Quesnel Thunder AAA peewee hockey team made it look easy last weekend winning their best-of-three series against the Williams Lake Timberwolves to earn a spot at the provincial peewee championships in Campbell River in March.

From an archery point of view, January was not a good month for Samantha Wright, four-time women’s national 3D archery champion, but from a funding perspective January was an excellent month.

Wrestlers from Quesnel junior secondary and Correlieu senior secondary schools tested their skills last Saturday against athletes from 19 different schools and managed to pin down some good results.

It was his 10th goal of the season for the Quesnel Millionaires, but Chris Blessing’s goal 1:29 into the second overtime period was much more than a winning goal. Blessing scored the overtime winner in Sunday’s game against the visiting Westside Warriors when he skated down the boards along the left side on a two-on-one with Spencer Graboski. “I knew right away I was going to take a shot,” Blessing said with a huge smile as the victory music blared from the Mills dressing room.

Friday wasn't a good night to be a Quesnel Millionaires fan as the Westside Warriors outplayed the Mills on their way to a convincing 8-2 win in front of just over 600 fans.

Thus far, the world cup skicross season has been a tough one for Brian Bennett, but following a sixth place finish at the recent X-Games, in Aspen, Colorado, he is hopeful it is a sign of good things to come.

It’s going to be a big weekend for Jonathan Schaefer and his coach Dale Chapplow. The Hall of Fame archers are in Las Vegas for the three-day World Archery Festival hosted by the National Field Archery Association.
