Kids won’t have to spend any screen time to join a Juno Award nominated musician in Quesnel.

Children’s concerts are returning to live audiences after more than two years of being held online or cancelled altogether due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Saturday, April 9, Will Stroet of Will’s Jams will be providing an afternoon of high-energy rock-pop music in English and French at Correlieu Secondary School’s Chuck Moberly Theatre.

“Not every child has access to Facebook or Youtube,” said Cathy Heinzelman with the Quesnel and District Community Arts Council (QDCAC).

“There were kids that missed out, and what we like about having a live presentation is it’s something kids can share with their parents or grandparents, and we’re trying to grow the youngest audiences so that they can grow up appreciating live shows.”

Stroet is no stranger to the area and has entertained children of all ages in Quesnel in the past.

The Quesnel Children’s Concert Society described the upcoming concert on their Facebook as “a great show for the whole family.”

“I can’t wait for this,” Stroet commented. “It’s been too long.”

Heinzelman said the QDCAC is grateful for being able to return to Correlieu Secondary to host their live children’s concerts. Panago Pizza will supply pizzas for arts council fundraising efforts.

Doors open at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 9.

Live children and family concerts are also scheduled for Sunday, May 8 featuring Brazilian martial arts dance group Axe Capoeira from Vancouver. On Sunday, May 29, the QDCAC will host Axis Theatre’s award-winning original puppet play “Someone Loves You, Mr. Hatch.”
