Some local racers will be at Vancouver Island’s extreme 4x4 competition this coming weekend.

Sam Davies and Rob Wilkin with the Quesnel Off-Road Association will be racing in the drag axle class and trail class at Westshore Motorsports Park.

“I’m feeling a little apprehensive,” Davies said of his first Island Cup.

“I have been way too busy working to be prepared, so I’m not actually ready but going to give it my best regardless.”

Davies owns and operates the automotive customization shop Sasquatch Off-Road Ltd. in Quesnel.

He’ll be bringing down a newly linked F-Toy, and Wilkin a Jeep XJ on 40-inch tires.

“There’s so much to see in our province, old mines, and just good views, so I enjoy the adventure of getting out and seeing what there is to see —I wish more people would,” Davies said of off-roading.

“And then, as far as racing, I just like the excitement, and I’m competitive.”

Davies had last competed in the Quesnel Off-Road Association’s Snowvid-19, The Race held last month in which he placed second in the big tire final.

Later this summer, he hopes to head out to Alberta and compete at the Tail Creek Raceway.
