The playoffs are here. The march to the Coy Cup is on, with the Quesnel Kangaroos on home ice this week in their first post-season action of 2023.
The Roos finished the Central Interior Hockey League regular season in first place, clinching a bye to the second round. This past weekend they awaited the victor of the Nechako Northstars versus Williams Lake Stampeders series and they now know it is the Nechako Northstars they will face in their best of three series.
The Northstars will host the Roos in Vanderhoof for Game 1 on Friday (Feb. 24). Regardless of the outcome, the series switches to Quesnel on Feb. 25 with the Roos hosting. Should a third and deciding game be necessary, that will happen on Feb. 26 also in Quesnel – the benefit of finishing at the top of the standings means home ice for the biggest games.
No matter what happens in the playoffs, the Kangaroos are assured a spot in the four-team Coy Cup Tournament coming up March 28-April 1 at West Fraser Centre. This playoff homestand is a prime opoprtunity to buy tournament passes that will guarantee you a big discount and your choice of seats for all eight games of the provincial AA-Senior Amateur championship.
The Kangaroos are still looking for sponsorship for the upcoming Coy Cup event. As team captain Alessio Tomassetti said, “it’s the best men’s hockey teams from around the province. The Coy Cup has been around since the 1960s. The Roos have won 12 of them as an organization and all eight games of hockey in this tournament will be incredible. The Quesnel Kangaroos are a non-profit organization, meaning that we run on this amazing community support. The Coy Cup is what we strive for all season and it is an honour not only to us but to the entire community to host such a great tournament, especially with it being the 100th anniversary celebration. That being said, it does come with a lot of extra costs. If you would like to get your business logo up on the glass as a Coy Cup sponsor, from now until the end of this event, please let us know.”
The best way to reach a Kangaroos business contact is attend the playoff game(s) this week or reach out through the Quesnel Kangaroos page on Facebook.
