Firefighters were busy in a number of different ways, in recent days.
The Quesnel Fire Department responded April 7 just after 7 p.m. for a dumpster fire near a small business in the 300-block of Front Street.
Then, on April 8, 10 and 13, firefighters were called to grassfires at Earley Avenue, an undetermined address, and on North Star Road, respectively.
There was also a grass fire incident at the high profile corner of Highway 97 and Highway 26. The Barlow Creek Volunteer Fire Department was called first to this April 10 incident just before 10 a.m., and Quesnel Fire Department was soon called to aid in the firefighting efforts. These fires were threatening a railroad, and this was seen by a passerby who intervened with grassroots firefighting efforts that limited the fire’s advance before the trained departments arrived to take over.
These first responders, most of them volunteers, were also called upon to help with various medical aid and smoke alarm calls as well.
Residents are reminded to not start an outdoor burning project without first contacting the Quesnel Fire Department to ensure it is allowed.
