Some of the finest livestock and non-livestock projects by youth were sold Sunday, Aug. 7, in the Ag Event Centre at Alex Fraser Park.

The Quesnel and District 4-H Show and Sale ended with an afternoon auction featuring beef, sheep, poultry, swine, photography and more, with bidders spending over $136,000.

“Things are going amazing,” said Cody Dillabough, an assistant key leader. “We’d like to thank all of our sponsors who make this program possible and, of course, all of our buyers who came out to support the kids.”

Members from the Forty Creek, Barlow Creek, Kersley and Cariboo Wolf Pack 4-H Clubs worked hard throughout the year on their many projects.

For some, including Cale Yorston, it was their first year in 4-H. Yorston’s project was turkeys and a pen of three market rabbits sold in the auction.

“A lot of buyers come back year after year, which we’re really thankful for,” Dillabough said, describing the auction as a great way to fill one’s freezer with homegrown meat.

“I haven’t seen the full list yet, but there are many new buyers as well,” Dillabough added. “Again, thank you to the buyers for supporting the kids.”

Projects were shown earlier on Friday, Aug. 5. and Saturday, Aug. 6.
